Quick
Heal Technologies Campus drive
18th
October 2013
The drive was organised at Gyan ganga college of technology,
Jabalpur and reporting time given to us was 9:00 am. As me and my friends
reached there, we saw a huge crowd of students who came to participate in the
open campus drive from all the reputed colleges of Jabalpur. Surely everyone
had the dream of working with a company like quick heal..India’s leading
antivirus developing firm but no one knew who will get the opportunity.
After the ggct people confirmed with our
registration, we were told to wait in the auditorium which is named “Spandan”
.Finally, the quick heal recruitment team along with the principal and TPO of
ggct arrived in Spandan at 11 am .The TPO introduced the quick heal team to all
of us..announcing the names and their respective position in the company, on
the stage. The HR manager and the technical head explained about the
technologies they use and the products they develop in quick heal by using a
PowerPoint presentation. As the presentation came to an end, the HR informed us
about the first round to be held soon .He told that it is going to be a written
test comprising of logical questions and some technical section of C and java.
Then we were told to move in groups inside different classrooms for giving the
test.
Round
1: Written (Subjective)
The first round began at 12 pm and we were provided
with a question paper along with an answer sheet and a blank sheet for doing
rough work. All the questions were subjective; this means we have to write the
calculated answer in the answer sheet against the respective question number of
a particular section. Remember, your
blank sheet is a piece of evaluation for the recruitment team, so its advisable
to write only your rough concept of solving the questions on the sheet which
can reflect your imagination and efforts. Write formulae, concepts or draw a
rough sketch of the logical problem to get out of it, in short use the blank
space in an efficient way. You are going to get judged not only on the basis of
your answers but also on the logic you put on the rough paper to get that
answer.
We have to
complete all the sections in total of 90 minutes. As told by the HR manager,
the paper comprised of three sections:
1) Logical
reasoning (10 questions)
2) C
Programming (15 questions)
3) Java
Programming (15 questions)
The instructions on the front page of the test paper
revealed that only after clearing the cut off for the first section, meaning
the logical reasoning section further sections will be evaluated. That is, if
you are not able to clear the logical part then whether you performed well in C
or java..they will not see to it.
The questions in logical section were simple but
little tricky. Take your time to get the right answers..because if you are
clear with cut off in logical then only the rest of answers matter. Some of the
questions that i remember were:
Q. There are two trees A and B. The birds of tree A
speaks to birds of tree B that if one of you come and join this tree, our
population will get twice that of yours. And the birds of tree B tells the
other tree birds that if one of you flew and join our tree then our population
will get equal. How many birds are there in tree A and B?
Answer is 7 and 5
Q. Write the missing number in the blank block. A
triangle of numbers was given and at one side a block was left empty. I don’t
remember the numbers written in the question but the logic was that the sum of
numbers on each side of triangle was 11.So write that number in the blank which
makes the sum of the side equal to 11.
Q.C and java section questions were program blocks
whose output has to be calculated. Java included programs related to multithreading,
string class.
The test finished at 1:30 pm and we were given lunch
break and told to assemble in the auditorium at 3:00 pm for getting the results
of first round. We waited long till 4:30 pm and finally the HR announced the
names of shortlisted candidates.63 out of 650 candidates have their names in
the list. And my name was the one. I felt surprised !! Moreover, at the same time I felt bad for my friends who were not with me for the next round but realizing may be they have much better opportunity waiting ahead I started preparing for the one waiting for me.
Round
2 - Technical Interview 1
The technical head of Quick heal was in front of me.
The interview lasted for about 50 minutes. He took my resume and asked me to
trace one of the C programs from the question paper of round 1 against which i
have written output in the answer sheet .He gave me a blank sheet to explain
how i reached to the output.
Apart from this, he asked me to tell about storage
classes and write a block of code to reverse a string without using strrev()
function of string.h header file. A logical problem was also given to me at the
end of the interview: there are 8 balls, one of which is defective..means 7 out
of 8 are equal in weight and the defective one is lesser in weight as compared
to the rest of the balls. You are provided with a classical weighing machine
also called as balance(taraju) used by vegetable sellers to weight vegetables.
So the question was, in how many turns of using the weighing machine you can
identify the defective ball?
Answer: by using the machine two times you can
detect the defective ball.
I replied correctly to most of the questions asked, the
interviewer congratulated me as he said that I have been promoted for next
technical interview and has to wait outside. The volunteer outside the
interview room told me that I was the first candidate who has been told to wait
for the next technical interview and also I was inside the interview room for
the longest duration of 50 minutes. I felt nice to be the first, i waited for
others to join me and finally we became 6 out of 63 shortlisted after the
written test.
Round
3 – Technical Interview 2
At around 8:45 pm, the project manager came out of
the room outside which we 6 were sitting. He announced my name and invited me
for the interview. Along with the project manager, another person was there in
the room, he was probably the technical team lead.
He asked me to introduce myself, then he told me to
write the string reversing code again by using one “for loop” instead of two,
that I have written in the previous interview sheet. Yes! my resume, my answer
sheet and the rough sheets of previous rounds were attached together and passed
on from the first round to the last.
I wrote the required syntax of combining two “for”
loops into one. In the condition part i wrote && operator, then the senior
person asked me what if I used a single & operator? What is the difference
between ‘&&’ and ‘&’
operator?
What are types of operator? What is turnery operator?
How it works?
What is a heap?
Q. Write a function which takes two arguments as
input and return the sum, subtraction and multiplication of those two numbers
to the caller.
Answer: Declare an array in which you store the
result of sum, subtraction and multiplication. Create a pointer which points to
the address of the array and now at the end of function body, return this
pointer to the caller.
Q. There are two ropes of uneven width. Each rope
takes one hour to burn completely. Hence, you cannot say that half of the rope
will burn in half hour because its width is not uniform. Now suppose you don’t
have watch, then how will you calculate exact 15 minutes by making use of the
two ropes and matchbox?
As i came out of the interview room at 9:30 pm ,the
other shortlisted students surrounded me with their questions..what r they
asking??hw was ur interview? I disappointed them with an answer that I have
been told not to disclose any of the asked questions and I have to leave for
home..they will call us tomorrow for results of this round. Others finished
with their interviews late night around 12:15 am. Everyone was sleepless that night..waiting
for the call to receive results of the last round.
19/10/2013
My phone rang at 10:00 am morning ,the tpo of ggct
was on the other end..he told me to report in the college at 10:30.As I reached
college the next day, all six students who appeared in the second technical
round were told to gather in the conference hall. After waiting for half an
hour , a quick heal team member came to announce the names of the shortlisted
students from the previous round and his list contained 4 names out of 6 who
will be going for another round which was non-technical interview.
Round
4 – Puzzle Round
The interview began at 12:30 pm; I was asked two
puzzles in this round by the same people who took the previous interview. The
puzzles were not much difficult but they needed good presence of mind and yes
you must have patience and will power to complete the given questions. Also,
those technical people were really supportive and whenever they find me near to
the answer they encouraged me by words like..Yes! try..you are 80% right ,you
are very near to the answer ,check once more..etc..and believe me such words
really help you and power you up to solve any problem or to get out of any
difficulty. I managed to answer both the puzzles but they were surely little
time taking and so my interview ended around 1:15 pm.
Puzzle
1:
There is an island with few people living on it. Out
of these people, some have blue coloured eyes and there can be n people having
blue coloured eye where n>= 1 also
n<total population of the island.
The king of the island makes an announcement that
all those people who are having blue coloured eyes have to leave the island
from a flight, he also added two conditions for the people. The conditions
were:
1) No
person can tell the other person his eyes colour.
2) One
cannot see his own eye colour as there is no mirror, not any reflecting
surface, also the water around the island is very dirty that no one is able to
see their own reflection to know the colour of their eyes and leave the island.
So, find out the no. of days it will take for all
the people having blue coloured eyes to leave the island?
(Hint: Start by assuming that there is only one
person on the island with blue eyes how will he leave from the island and then
calculate the same for n=2 and so on.)
Puzzle
2:
There are two cities A and B. City A has a military
camp and an urgent parcel is to be sent from city A to city B. They have n
number of cars and unlimited quantity of fuel but one car with full fuel in its
tank can only cover half of the total distance between A and B. One cannot
carry fuel cans or bottles with him or cannot toe one car with other car but can transfer fuel of one car to other. How
many cars are needed to deliver the parcel to city B and what will be your
strategy for delivering the parcel? Draw and explain.
It was around 2:30 pm when we all four finished with
the interview and then we were given break time. After about half an hour, a
volunteer called out three names and directed us towards a room. We have to
wait there for the call to face the last round of the drive – a personal
interview by the HR manager.
Round
5 - HR Interview
I was asked some common questions including:
1) Introduce
yourself and describe your family.
2) Whether
you will be allowed to relocate or not?
3) Describe
yourself. Are you talkative, friendly or quite?
4) What
you think are your improvement areas?
5) What
are your strengths?
6) Are
you ready for relocating to pune from January for internship?
7) Any
questions from your side?
I noticed my resume along with all the rough sheets
that I used in the previous interviews attached together in the manager’s hand.
I replied to all his questions confidently and then waited for other people to
finish with their interview.
Finally, when we all were done with this last
round, we were waiting for the results outside the interview room when the
HR manager along with his team and the dignitaries of ggct announced the names
of we all three students..and the floor echoed with the loud appreciations and
wishes. I was so much happy and felt like shouting and jumping around, but
keeping my jumping emotions inside I congratulated other two people who also got
selected with me and shared my happiness by calling to my parents and friends.I surely want them to be with me that moment so I was eager to go back home soon.. :) I really
thank god, my family and all my friends for being with me always. J
